Odisha Finally Back to Four Figures in Daily Cases, with 18 Casualties, in Latest Count

For the fifth straight day since the start of its two-week lockdown six days ago to control the rapidly spreading second wave of Covid-19, Odisha has been seeing a slow but steady fall in daily Covid cases with 9,793 cases reported over the past 24 hours leading up to today morning, according to official data.

During this period, the deadly virus claimed 18 lives in the state, with the district of Angul accounting for four, followed by Khordha with three, while Kalahandi, Rayagada and Sundargarh registered two deaths each, and Puri, Boudh, Gajapati, Malkangiri and Deogarh reported the remaining five, as per the Government of Odisha’s Covid Dashboard.

With this, the overall Covid death toll in the state has risen to 2,215.

Of the new cases, 5,534 have been reported from quarantine centres across Odisha, with 4,259 coming from local contacts.

The Covid caseload in the state has risen to 5,54,666, with 4,57,569 recoveries since the outbreak of the pandemic last year, and 94,829 active cases at present.

Khordha remains by far the most affected district in the state, having reported 86,553 cases so far, which is almost double that of second-placed Cuttack with 43,626 cases, while Sundargarh is the third most infected district with 40,435 cases.

A total of 1,06,12,456 Covid tests have been conducted in the state so far.
