Assistant Collector Arrested in Disproportionate Assets Case

The Odisha Vigilance Department has arrested Manoranjan Nayak, Assistant Collector, Rourkela, for possessing properties disproportionate to his known sources of income, officials said yesterday.

Acting on a tip-off, the vigilance sleuths led by an Additional SP conducted simultaneous raids at five locations including the office of Nayak in Sundargarh, Jajpur and Khordha district of Odisha.

During the raid, it was found that he possesses movable and immovable properties worth around Rs 2 crore. The properties include one triple storeyed building of about Rs 75 lakh and one double storeyed building worth Rs 35 lakh in Rourkela city, the officials said.

Similarly, one 3 BHK flat worth Rs 50 lakh at Gothapatna in Bhubaneswar city, two four wheelers, one two wheeler, bank deposits, gold, cash and other movable and immovable properties were also unearthed by the vigilance department during the raid.

A case has been registered at Rourkela vigilance police station against Nayak and his younger brother under sections of Prevention of Corruption Act.

Nayak, who is an Odisha Revenue Service (ORS) officer, has been arrested and forwarded to the Court of special judge, vigilance, Sundargarh today. Further, the vigilance is looking into suspected transactions made by Nayak for acquisition of benami assets, officials added.
