The latest round of Odisha’s battle with Covid-19 evoked mixed feelings as the state saw a fairly big drop in fresh cases but reported a record number of deaths in the 24 hours leading up to today’s official tally posted on the state government’s Covid Dashboard.
Of the total 11,059 new cases, 6,139 came from quarantine centres and 4,866 from local contact tracing.
The district of Cuttack registered the highest numbers with 1,133 cases, trailed by Khordha with 1,010, Angul at 859, Sundargarh at 729 and Mayurbhanj with 662 cases.
Of record 32 deaths reported in the latest count, Khordha accounted for 6, followed by Ganjam and Jharsuguda with 4 each, Angul, Kalahandi and Sundargarh with three each, Gajapati and Puri with two each while Balangir, Cuttack, Kendujhar, Nayagarh and Sambalpur reported the remaining five.
Khordha also leads the overall Covid caseload figures among all districts in the state, with 1,06,618 cases, followed by Cuttack at 56,139, Sundargarh at 51,242, Ganjam at 30,330 and Puri with 29,129 cases.
Odisha’s Covid caseload has risen to 7,03,441, with 1,11,262 active cases at present. While the overall death toll has touched 2,516, a total of 5,89,610 people have recovered from the deadly disease since the outbreak of the pandemic last year.
The state has conducted Covid tests on 1,13,75,076 people so far.
