On the third day of its two-week lockdown, Odisha has once again seen a record daily spike in Covid-19 cases with 12,238 people testing positive and 19 people losing their lives to the deadly virus over the past 24 hours, as per official data released today morning.
Of the total new cases, 6,914 have been reported from quarantine centres across the state and the remaining 5,324 were from local contacts, according to figures shared by the state Health and Family Welfare Department.
The district of Sundargarh has registered the highest incidence of infection this time with 2,073 new cases, followed by Khordha and Cuttack with 1,828 and 916 cases, respectively.
Khordha and Sundargarh saw four fatalities each, followed by Puri and Ganjam (two each), with Cuttack, Gajapati, Anugul, Balangir, Deogarh, Jharsuguda and Kalahandi registering one death each.
With this, the overall Covid caseload in the state has risen to 5,12,400, while the death toll has touched 2,140.
Meanwhile, a total of 4,23,257 people in Odisha have recovered from coronavirus and there are 86,950 active cases at present.
Khordha remains by far the most affected district, having reported 80,639 cases since the start of the pandemic, followed by Cuttack with 40,326 cases, Sundargarh with 35,728 cases, Ganjam with 25,925 cases and Puri with 21,657 cases.
The state government has conducted a total of 1,04,18,217 Covid-19 tests since the outbreak of the pandemic last year.
