On the fifth day of its two-week lockdown to control the rapid rise of Covid-19 infections, Odisha has reported 10,635 cases and 19 deaths over the 24 hours leading up to today morning, according to official data.
Of the daily new cases reported in the state, 6,012 were from quarantine and 4,623 were from local contacts, according to the state Information and Public Relations Department.
The district of Khordha registered the highest number of fresh cases with 1,564 cases, followed by Sundargarh with 934, Cuttack 887, Angul 559 and Kalahandi 469 cases.
Khordha and Kalahandi logged the highest number of fatalities, with three deaths each, whereas Angul, Bhadrak, Balangir, Dhenkanal, Gajapati, Ganjam, Jajpur, Jharsuguda, Puri, Rayagada, Sambalpur, Sundargarh and Subarnapur reported one death each.
Khordha also remains the most Covid-infected district, having seen 83,713 cases since the start of the pandemic last year. Cuttack comes a distant second with 42,265 cases, followed by Sundargarh with 38,593 cases, and Ganjam and Puri with 26,532 and 22,545 cases.
With this, the overall Covid caseload in Odisha has risen to 5,34,842, with 4,39,322 recoveries since the outbreak of the pandemic last year, and 93,287 active cases at present.
The state government has carried out 1,05,17,838 tests so far.
