Still in Throes of Covid, Odisha Posts 10,321 New Cases, 22 Deaths, Over Past 24 Hours

Since registering a record high of daily Covid-19 cases on May 14, Odisha has been seeing a slow but steady decline, with 10,321 new ones reported over the past 24 hours, while the deadly virus has claimed 22 lives in the state during the same period.

Of the total new cases, 5,779 have been reported from quarantine centres across Odisha and the remaining 4,542 have come from local contacts.

Khordha district has the reported the highest numbers with 1,556 fresh cases, followed by Sundargarh with 819, Cuttack with 731, Kalahandi with 599, and Puri with 472 cases.

The districts of Boudh, Kalahandi, Khordha, Nuapada and Sundargarh have accounted for the highest casualties in the latest Covid tally, having lost three lives each. Following them are Gajapati, Koraput and Rayagada, with two deaths each, and Balangir with one.

With this, Odisha’s Covid-19 caseload has risen to 6,33,302, with 1,04,539 active cases at present while 5,26,353 people in the state have recovered and 2,357 died from coronavirus since its outbreak last year.

Khordha has by far been the most infected district in the state, having logged a total of 97,449 cases since the start of the pandemic last year, almost twice that of second-placed Cuttack with 49,931 and third-placed Sundargarh with 46,556 cases.

A total of 1,09,97,876 Covid tests have been conducted in Odisha so far.
