As the Naveen Patnaik government extended the ongoing lockdown in Odisha until June 1, the state once again bucked a five-day trend of decline in daily Covid-19 cases by logging 11,099 fresh ones and 21 deaths over the past 24 hours.
Of the new cases, 6,214 came from quarantine centres across Odisha and 4,885 from local contact tracing.
The district of Khordha reported the highest numbers with 1,460 cases, followed by Sundargarh at 983, Cuttack at 867, Mayurbhanj at 552 and Sambalpur at 547 cases.
Odisha’s Covid caseload has reached 6,44,401, with Khordha alone accounting for nearly a sixth of it with 98,909, as Cuttack and Sundargarh trail behind at 50,798 and 47,539.
While 5,36,595 people in the state have recovered from the deadly disease since its outbreak last year, 2,378 have succumbed to it, with 1,05,375 active cases at present.
Among the latest casualties reported today, Kalahandi led with three, followed by Khordha, Koraput, Sambalpur, Mayurbhanj and Sundargarh with two each, and Bargarh, Balangir, Cuttack, Kandhamal, Kendujhar, Nayagarh, Nuapada and Puri accounted for the remaining eight.
The state has conducted a total of 1,10,58,386 Covid tests so far.
