Odisha Shatters Covid Records for Daily Cases, Deaths, Once Again

The extended lockdown in Odisha due to the second Covid-19 wave has yet to yield tangible results as the state saw a record number of daily cases and deaths in the past 24 hours, according to official data collected from the Government of Odisha’s online Covid Dashboard.

Of the 12,523 cases reported in the past 24 hours, 7,012 came from quarantine centres and 5,511 from local contact tracing, as per the state Information and Public Relations department.

With 1,842 fresh cases, the district of Khordha alone accounted for around 15 percent of the statewide total. Next came Cuttack, with 1,084 cases, Angul with 930, Sundargarh 715 and Puri with 568 cases.

Of the record 27 lives that Covid claimed during this period, Khordha registered the highest numbers, along with Koraput, with 4 casualties each. Nuapada, Rayagada and Sundargarh reported three each, followed by Kalahandi with two casualties, as Bargarh, Balangir, Boudh, Gajapati, Jharsuguda, Nabarangpur, Puri and Subarnapur accounted for the remaining eight.

Odisha’s overall Covid caseload has risen to 6,68,422, with 1,09,438 active cases at present.

While the death toll has reached 2,430, the number of people who have recovered from the deadly disease has risen to 5,56,501 since the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic last year.

A total of 1,11,80,649 Covid tests have been carried out so far in the state.
