Odisha’s battle against Covid-19 has intensified as it reported a record 12,852 new cases and 28 deaths in the 24 hours leading up to today morning, according to official data from the state government’s online Covid dashboard.
Of the latest fresh cases, 7,195 were reported from quarantine centres across the state and 5,657 came from local contact tracing.
The district of Khordha accounted for the highest numbers with 1,909 cases, followed by Cuttack with 1,073, Angul at 874, Sundargarh at 848 and Kalahandi with 668 cases.
Khordha also registered the highest casualties with five deaths since yesterday, followed by Sundargarh and Kalahandi with four each, Angul and Kendrapada with three each and Nabarangpur, Puri and Rayagad with two each, while Gajapati, Ganjam and Nuapada accounted for the remaining three.
The state’s Covid caseload has risen to 6,92,382, with 1,11,862 active cases at present. While 5,77,983 people have recovered from the deadly disease, 2,484 have succumbed to it since the outbreak of the pandemic last year.
The state has conducted 1,13,08,564 Covid tests so far.
