Odisha saw a slight dip in its daily coronavirus cases from yesterday even though it once again broke its daily death record in the 24 hours leading up to today morning, according to official data posted on the state government’s online Covid dashboard.
Of the 10,939 new cases reported today, 6,178 came from quarantine centres across the state and 4,761 from local contact tracing, according to the state Information and Public Relations department.
The district of Khordha registered the highest numbers with 1,298 cases, followed by Cuttack with 922, Angul with 819, Dhenkanal with 763, and Mayurbhanj with 604 cases.
Of the record 33 fatalities reported in the state during this period, Khordha accounted for the highest, with seven lives claimed by the deadly virus. Angul, Jharsuguda and Kalahandi reported four deaths each, followed by Subarnapur and Sundargarh with three each, Ganjam and Kendujhar with two each, as Deogarh, Jajpur, Kandhamal and Koraput logged the remaining four.
Khordha has also had the Covid caseload among all districts, with 1,07,916 cases. It is trailed by Cuttack at 57,061, Sundargarh at 51,754, Ganjam at 30,584 and Puri at 29,585.
Odisha’s overall caseload has risen to 7,14,380, with 1,10,554 active cases at present. While 6,01,224 people have recovered from coronavirus, 2,549 people in the state have succumbed to it since the outbreak of the pandemic.
A total of 1,14,37,337 Covid-19 tests have been conducted in the state so far.
