Odisha has once again logged its highest ever single-day Covid death toll record, with 35 casualties, as it reported 11,623 new cases in the latest 24-hour period, as per official data on the state government’s online Covid dashboard.
Of the total number of fresh cases, 6,509 came from quarantine centres as 5,914 were from local contact tracing, according to state Information and Public Relations department.
The district of Khordha accounted for nearly a sixth of the total tally, with 2,021 cases, followed by Cuttack at 998, Angul at 823, Sundargarh at 699 and Jajpur at 560 cases.
Khordha and Angul reported the highest casualties with 5 deaths each, followed by Nabarangpur and Sundargarh with 4 each, Kendrapara with three, Jharsuguda, Kalahandi and Koraput with two each, as Bhadrak, Boudh, Cuttack, Ganjam, Jagatsinghpur, Kendujhar, Nayagarh and Rayagada registering the remaining eight cases.
With this Odisha’s overall Covid caseload has risen to 7,26,003, with 1,10,373 active cases at present. While 6,12,993 people have recovered from the deadly virus since the start of the pandemic, 2,584 have succumbed to it.
The state has conducted 1,15,06,744 Covid-19 tests so far.
