The trend of rising daily Covid deaths in Odisha continues with the deadly virus claiming a record 42 lives as 8,339 fresh cases were reported in the state in the past 24 hours, according to data from the state government’s online Covid dashboard.
Of the latest new cases, 4,948 came from quarantine centres while 3,891 came from local contact tracing, as per the state Information and Public Relations department.
The district of Khordha reported the highest numbers with 1,235 cases, followed by Cuttack with 769, Mayurbhanj with 583, Dhenkanal with 510, and Jajpur with 493 cases.
Meanwhile, Sundargarh reported the highest casualties with five deaths, followed by Cuttack and Kalahandi with four each, Boudh, Khordha and Jharsuguda with three each, Angul, Balasore, Balangir, Deogarh, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Kendrapara and Gajapati with two each, as Bhadrak, Bargarh, Ganjam and Puri shared the remaining four cases.
The state’s overall Covid caseload has risen to 7,90,970, with 85,423 active cases at present. While 7,02,061 people have recovered from the dreaded disease since the outbreak of the pandemic last year, 2,873 have died of it.
A total of 1,19,72,226 Covid tests have been conducted so far.
