Odisha has registered a marked drop in daily Covid cases, with 5,235 new cases reported in the past 24 hours, although the daily death count has remained high by the state’s standards at 43, according to data from the state government’s online Covid dashboard.
Of the latest new cases, 2,957 came from quarantine centres and 2,278 came from local contact tracing.
With 726 cases reported in Khordha, the district remains the most affected despite its steadily declining Covid trend. It is followed today by Cuttack at 557, Jajpur at 394, Balasore at 320, Mayurbhanj at 285 and Angul at 277.
Khordha also saw the highest casualties in the meantime, with five deaths, trailed by Angul, Bargarh, Cuttack and Sundargarh with four each, Boudh and Kalahandi with three each, Balasore, Ganjam, Jharsuguda, Kendrapara, Puri and Rayagada with two each, as Dhenkanal, Kandhamal, Nayagarh and Sambalpur accounted for the remaining four fatalities.
Odisha’s overall Covid caseload has risen to 8,42,461, with death toll at 3,210. There are 66,266 active cases at present, while 7,72,972 people have recovered from the dreadful disease since the outbreak of the pandemic last year.
The state has conducted 1,25,23,241 Covid tests so far.
