Odisha has witnessed a welcome plunge in daily Covid-19 cases with just 3,405 fresh ones reported in the past 24 hours, although the same may not be said for the daily death toll as the deadly virus claimed 42 lives during the same time period, according to data published on the state government’s online Covid dashboard.
Of the new cases, 1,942 came from quarantine centres and 1,463 through local contacts tracing, as per the state Information and Public Relations department.
Khordha remains the most infected district with 500 cases, followed by Balasore with 296 and Cuttack with 230 cases.
Khordha, Cuttack, Puri and Jharsuguda logged the highest fatalities with four deaths each, trailed by Bargarh, Kalahandi, Jagatsinghpur and Rayagada with three each, Sundargarh, Malkangiri, Kendujhar and Ganjam with two each, as Balasore, Balangir, Deogarh, Kendrapara, Nuapada and Sambalpur accounted for the remaining six casualties.
With these figures, Odisha’s overall caseload has risen to 8,59,526, with 51,104 active cases at present. While 8,04,981 people have recovered from the dreaded disease since the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic last year, 3,388 have succumbed to it.
A total of 1,27,77,739 Covid tests have been conducted in Odisha so far.
