After five straight days of decline in daily Covid numbers, Odisha has faced a mild resistance to the trend with 3,535 fresh cases and 44 deaths in the past 24 hours, according to data on the state government’s online Covid dashboard.
Of the latest cases, 2,016 came from quarantine centres and 1,519 from local contacts tracing, as per the state Information and Public Relations (I&PR) department.
The district of Khordha registered the highest numbers with 533 cases, followed by Jajpur with 348, Cuttack with 320, Balasore with 296 and Angul with 207 cases.
As Khordha again saw the highest casualties, with five deaths, Ganjam, Kalahandi and Puri followed with four each, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Jharsuguda, Rayagada and Sundargarh with three each, Bargarh, Boudh and Mayurbhanj with two each and Kandhamal, Nuapada, Gajapati, Dhenkanal, Kendujhar and Sambalpur accounted for the remaining six fatalities.
With this, Odisha’s overall Covid caseload has risen to 8,63,061, with 47,796 active cases at present. While 8,11,780 people have recovered from the deadly disease since the outbreak of the pandemic last year, 3,432 people have lost their lives to it.
The state has conducted a total of 1,28,36,434 Covid tests so far.
