Odisha’s daily Covid numbers are no longer trending downwards, with 3,806 new cases reported in the past 24 hours, although the daily death count seems to be slowly declining, with 37 casualties registered during the same period, according to data on the state government’s online Covid dashboard.
Of the new cases, 2,172 have come from quarantine centres and 1,634 from local contact tracing, as per the state Information and Public Relations department.
The district of Khordha continues to post the highest numbers with 617 cases, followed by Cuttack with 393, Jajpur with 346, Balasore with 220 and Puri with 200 cases.
Khordha also led on the fatalities front, with five deaths, with Cuttack, Jharsuguda and Kalahandi closely trailing it with four deaths each. While Bargarh, Puri and Sundargarh accounted for three deaths each, Bolangir, Deogarh, Kendrapada and Rayagada witnessed two deaths each, with Gajapati, Mayurbhanj and Sambalpur sharing the remaining three.
Odisha’s overall caseload has now risen to 8,70,498, with 43,338 active cases at present. While 8,23,599 people have recovered from the deadly disease, 3,508 people have lost their battles with it since the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic last year.
The government has conducted a total of 1,29,64,705 Covid tests across the state so far.
