Odisha has once witnessed made a departure from the declining trend of daily Covid-19 numbers, with 3,554 fresh cases and a record 47 deaths reported in the latest 24-hour count, according to data on the state government’s online Covid dashboard.
Of the new cases, 2,028 have come from quarantine centres and 1,526 from local contact tracing.
The district of Khordha has seen registered the highest figures with 651 cases, followed by Cuttack (501), Balasore (271), Jajpur (256) and Puri (233).
Khordha also saw the highest casualties, with nine deaths, followed by Bargarh, Cuttack and Nayagarh with five each, Ganjam, Puri and Sundargarh with three each, Angul, Jajpur and Kendrapara with two each and Balasore, Dhenkanal, Gajapati, Jagatsinghpur, Jharsuguda, Kalahandi, Mayurbhanj and Nuapada accounted for the remaining eight deaths.
Odisha’s overall Covid caseload has now risen to 8,93,508, with 29,512 active cases. While 3,848 lives have been claimed by the deadly virus since its outbreak last year, 8,60,142 have recovered from it.
The state has conducted a total of 1,34,86,082 Covid tests so far.
