Positive Plunge: Odisha Sees 2,640 New Covid Cases and 40 Deaths in 24 Hours

Odisha witnessed a marked drop in its daily Covid numbers with 2,640 fresh cases and 40 casualties in the past 24 hours, according to data on the state government’s online Covid dashboard.

Of the latest new cases, 1,517 came from quarantine centres and 1,123 from local contact tracing, according to the state Information and Public Relations department.

In a departure from the usual, the district of Balasore reported the highest numbers with 397 cases, followed by Khordha (365), Cuttack (266), Puri (178) and Jajpur (162).

However, Khordha continues to register the highest fatalities with seven deaths, followed by Bargarh, Cuttack and Nayagarh with five each, Puri with four, Angul and Ganjam with three, Kalahandi with two, as Bhadrak, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Koraput, Sambalpur and Nabarangpur accounted for the remaining five deaths.

Odisha’s overall Covid caseload has now risen to 9,06,429, with 31,619 active cases. While 8,70,787 people have recovered from their fight with the deadly virus, 3,970 have succumbed to it.

A total of 1,36,84,221 Covid tests have been conducted across the state so far.
