Any hopes of seeing a plateauing of the Covid-19 curve in Odisha on the second day of its fortnight-long lockdown were shattered as the state reported a record 10,521 fresh cases and 17 deaths today.
Of the total new cases registered over the 24 hours leading up to today morning, 5,945 came from quarantine centres across the state and the remaining 4,576 from local contacts.
Khordha remained the district logging the highest number of daily cases, with a tally of 1,374. Following Khordha were Sundargarh and Cuttack, with 1,186 and 963 new cases, respectively.
Of the record 17 Covid-related casualties, four were registered in Khordha, two each in Balasore and Malkangiri, and one each in Jharsuguda, Deogarh, Nayagarh, Sundargarh, Kalahandi, Boudh, Kendujhar, Rayagada And Sambalpur.
With the latest figures, the total Covid caseload in Odisha has reached 5,00,162, with 416,403 recoveries since the start of the pandemic last year and 81,585 active cases at present.
Since the outbreak, the state has conducted 1,03,67,418 Covid tests.
