Odisha Sees Record 21 Deaths, with 11,807 New Cases, in Latest Count

Odisha has logged 11,807 fresh cases and its highest ever daily Covid-19 fatalities on the fourth day of its 14-day lockdown, with the virus claiming as many as 21 lives in the state over past 24 hours leading up to today morning, according to official data.

As per the latest figures released by the state Health and Family Welfare Department, the death toll in Odisha since the outbreak of the pandemic last year has touched 2,161 and the state’s overall Covid caseload has risen to 5,24,207. While 4,31,658 people have recovered from the virus, there are currently 90,335 active cases in the state.

Of the total new cases, 6,613 were reported from quarantine centres across Odisha and the remaining 5,194 came from local contacts.

The district of Sundargarh has registered the highest numbers with 1922 new cases, followed by Khordha with 1510 cases, Cuttack with 1,052 cases, and Sambalpur and Puri with 533 and 454 cases, respectively.

Of the 21 deaths, Kalahandi district reported four, while Angul, Bhadrak, Cuttack and Sundargarh registered two each, with Dhenkanal, Ganjam, Jagatsinghpur, Jajpur, Khordha, Kendrapara, Kendujhar , Puri and Nuapada accounting for one each.

A total of 1,0,469,081 Covid tests have been conducted statewide so far.
