Halfway through its 14-day lockdown, Odisha has unfortunately bucked a five-day trend of falling daily Covid cases to register 10,982 fresh ones over the 24 hours leading up to today morning, according to official data.
During this period, the virus claimed 17 lives in the state, with the districts of Khordha and Angul witnessing three deaths each, followed by Kalahandi, Puri and Sundargarh with two each and Balasore, Boudh, Dhenkanal, Ganjam and Rayagada accounting for the remaining five.
Of the new cases reported, 6,149 have come from quarantine centres across the state and 4,833 through local contact tracing.
With this, Odisha’s Covid caseload has risen to 5,65,648, with 98,230 active cases at present, while 4,65,133 people in the state have recovered from the virus since the outbreak of the pandemic last year.
Khordha remains the most Covid-infected district in Odisha with a caseload of 88,092, followed by Cuttack with 44,511, Sundargarh with 41,399, Ganjam with 27,194 and Puri with 24,002.
The state government has conducted a total of 1,06,61,647 Covid tests so far.
