Odisha witnessed a plunge in daily Covid-19 cases from yesterday, with 6,736 cases registered in the 24 hours leading up to today morning, although the deadly virus claimed 34 lives in the state during this period, according to official data from the government’s online Covid dashboard.
Of the latest new cases, 3,774 were from quarantine centres and the remaining 2,962 came from local contact tracing.
The districts of Angul and Sundargarh logged the highest numbers with 788 and 720 cases, respectively, while Khordha came a distant third with 517 cases, followed by Bargarh at 405 and Jajpur at 374.
Angul also reported the highest casualties with five deaths, followed by Khordha and Kalahandi with four each, Boudh, Nuapada and Sundargarh with three each, Gajapati, Jharsuguda, Kendrapara, Nabarangpur and Rayagada with two each, while Puri and Dhenkanal accounted for the remaining two deaths
Odisha’s overall Covid caseload has reached 7,32,739, with 1,06,440 active cases at present. While the death toll has touched 2,618, a total of 6,23,628 people in the state have recovered from coronavirus since its outbreak last year.
The state has conducted tested 1,15,52,985 Covid tests so far.
