In a relief after yesterday’s spike in Covid-19 cases and the government’s announcement about extension of statewide lockdown until June 17, Odisha reported 8,313 fresh ones as the daily casualty count once again touched its all-time record of 35 today, according to data on the state government’s online Covid dashboard.
Of the latest new ones, 4,655 came from quarantine centres and 3,658 from local contact tracing, according to the state Information and Public Relations department.
The district of Khordha has reported the highest figures with 974 cases, followed by Cuttack with 593, Mayurbhanj with 532, Angul with 505, and Sundargarh with 465 cases.
Angul has reported the highest fatalities, with five deaths, trailed by Cuttack, Kalahandi, Khordha, Kendrapara, Nabarangpur and Subarnapur with three each, Deogarh, Gajapati, Jharsuguda, Ganjam and Sundargarh with two each as Nayagarh and Nuapada accounted for the remaining two.
With this, Odisha’s overall caseload has risen to 7,64,997, with 91,663 active cases at present. While the dreaded coronavirus has claimed 2,754 lives in the state since the outbreak of the pandemic last year, 6,70,527 people have recovered from it during the time period.
A total of 1,17,73,072 Covid tests have been conducted in the state so far.
