Odisha Logs 8,399 New Cases with Record 40 Deaths in Latest 24-Hour Period

Odisha saw its daily Covid casualties record from yesterday shattered again today with 40 deaths as it reported 8,399 fresh cases over the past 24 hours, according to data from the state government’s online Covid dashboard.

Of the latest new cases, 4,741 came from quarantine centres while 3,658 came from local contact tracing, as per the state Information and Public Relations department.

The district of Khordha registered the highest numbers with 1,102 cases, trailed by Cuttack with 766, Jajpur with 514, Mayurbhanj with 485, and Sundargarh with 477 cases.

Khordha, Angul, Cuttack and Kalahandi accounted for the highest fatalities, with five deaths each, followed by Jharsuguda with four, Boudh and Rayagada with three each, Sambalpur, Nabarangpur and Deogarh with two each and Balasore, Dhenkanal, Jajpur and Malkangiri with one death each.

Odisha’s overall Covid caseload has now risen to 7,82,131, with 87,220 active cases. While 6,92,027 lives have been claimed the dreaded virus since the outbreak of the pandemic, 2,831 have succumbed to it.

A total of 1,19,02,048 Covid tests have been conducted in the state so far.
