Odisha saw a steep rise in its daily Covid cases, with 9,541 fresh ones, as it reported 33 deaths in the past 24 hours, according to data from the state government’s online Covid dashboard.
Of the latest new cases, 5,343 came from quarantine centres and 4,198 from local contacts, as per the state Information and Public Relations department.
Khordha logged the highest numbers with 1,342 cases, which took the district’s Covid caseload to 1,13,739. Meanwhile, Cuttack is second placed today both in terms of daily new cases, at 716, and overall Covid caseload, at 60,918.
However, it was Angul that reported the highest casualties in the latest count, with five deaths. It was followed by Boudh, Kalahandi, Nabarangpur and Sundargarh with three deaths each, Cuttack, Deogarh, Gajapati, Kandhamal, Kendujhar and Khordha with two each, as Ganjam, Koraput, Malkangiri and Rayagada accounted for the remaining four cases.
With today’s figures, Odisha’s overall caseload has risen to 7,56,684, with 95,266 active cases at present. While 6,58,646 people have recovered in the state since the outbreak of the pandemic last year, 2,719 lives have been lost to the deadly disease.
A total of 1,17,11,459 Covid tests have been conducted in the state so far.
