Bucking a trend of reduction in daily Covid-19 cases over the past couple of days and making a threateningly sharp jump from yesterday, Odisha has registered 9,889 cases and 16 deaths over the past 24 hours.
Of the total number of new cases, 5,611 have been reported from quarantine centres across the state and the remaining 4,278 have come from local contact tracing.
With this, the state’s coronavirus caseload has shot up to 4,89,641 and death toll from the dreaded virus has reached 2,104.
Khordha leads the latest fatalities count in the state, with the virus claiming four lives in the district over the past 24 hours. Following Khordha are Kalahandi and Gajapati, which reported three deaths each, while Sundargarh and Rayagada saw two deaths each, with Puri and Sambalpur registering one each.
At present, the number of active cases in the state stands at 77,527.
Once again, Khordha leads the daily tally with 1,331 fresh cases, followed by Sundargarh at 1,137 and Cuttack at 790.
On the positive side, however, the number of recoveries continues to increasing at a fast pace – with 4,10,257 people in the state having overcome their fight with the virus since the outbreak of the pandemic.
