While Odisha’s daily Covid tally has come below the 6,000 mark, with just 5,896 fresh ones reported in the past 24 hours, its daily death toll has touched a new record with 45 fatalities, according to data on the state government’s online Covid dashboard.
Of the new cases 3,332 came from quarantine centres and 2,564 came from local contacts tracing, as per the state Information and Public Relations department.
The district of Khordha has registered the highest numbers with 853 cases, followed by Jajpur with 413, Angul with 385, Balasore with 373 and Bhadrak with 370 cases.
Khordha also registered the highest casualties with six deaths, followed by Cuttack and Kalahandi with five each, Angul, Dhenkanal and Sundargarh with four each, Boudh and Jharsuguda with three each, Bargarh and Rayagada with two each, as the remaining seven deaths were accounted for by Balasore, Jagatsinghpur, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Nayagarh, Mayurbhanj and Malkangiri.
Odisha’s overall Covid caseload has now risen to 8,25,110, with 74,172 active cases and 3,080 deaths, while 7,47,805 people have recovered from the deadly virus since the outbreak of the pandemic last year.
A total of 1,23,19,190 Covid tests have been conducted across the state so far.
