Odisha’s daily Covid-19 cases are once again seeing a steady downward trend, with 7,002 fresh ones reported in the latest 24-hour count, even though the deadly virus claimed a record-touching 42 lives, according to data from the state government’s online Covid dashboard.
Of the new cases, 3,921 came from quarantine centres across the state, while 3,081 came through local contacts tracing, as per the state Information and Public Relations department.
The district of Khordha posted the highest numbers, with 1,167 cases, followed by Cuttack with 771, Jajpur with 486, Angul with 388 and Mayurbhanj with 370 cases.
Meanwhile, Angul, Cuttack and Khordha recorded the highest fatalities, with four each, trailed by Boudh, Deogarh, Jharsuguda and Kalahandi with three each, Mayurbhanj, Rayagada, Jagatsinghpur, Sundargarh and Gajapati with two each, as Bargarh, Ganjam, Jajpur, Kandhamal, Koraput, Malkangiri, Nuapada and Puri accounted for the remaining eight deaths.
Odisha’s overall Covid caseload has now risen to 8,13,096, with 78,031 active cases. While 7,32,018 people have recovered from the dreadful disease since the outbreak of the pandemic last year, 2,994 have succumbed to it.
A total of 1,21,83,116 Covid tests have been conducted in the state so far.
